Jewelry Cleaning and Care

What is tarnish? Tarnish is discoloration due to exposure to air climate, oxide, sulfur and other contamination. Cardboard, paper and certain dyes leach fumes that damage silver. Moisture is also a factor. Silver should be stored in a zip-seal bag in a wooden, stone or plastic box somewhere other than your bathroom. To protect it from perfumes and lotions, make it the last thing you put on in the morning, and the first thing you take off at night. If it is a piece you don't wear daily, wipe it down with a soft dry cloth before storing it to remove any body oils. Also be aware that things like rubber (rubber bands for example) and latex will actually burn your silver, even through several layers of plastic, so keep them as far apart from each other as possible. Anti-Tarnish Paper
This special absorbent anti-tarnish paper will protect metal jewelry and other items from unsightly discoloration and tarnish. The strips protect silver, gold and other metals. Simply put the anti-tarnish strips in a well-sealed enclosure with tarnish-free silver or other metal items. The more air-tight the enclosure, the longer the strips will remain effective. The enclosure can be in a drawer, jewelry box, cloth storage bag, safe deposit box or other container. The anti-tarnish strips do not need to touch the metal but to be near it, although the strip will not harm metal it touches. Each strip will protect metal from tarnish for approximately six months in a jewelry box, jewelry chest, cabinet or other enclosed area. The strips are completely non-toxic and safe. They do not emit anything, and they leave no residue. One anti-tarnish strip protects one cubic foot of enclosed air space.

QuikBrite Polishing Spray.
